Starting in grass-roots rural New Zealand, RD Petroleum has fuel sites across the South Island and supplies bulk fuel, home heating diesel, lubricants, fuel storage products, and aviation fuel to the residential and commercial sectors, including the aviation, marine and rural industries.
With a head office based in Christchurch and a remote office in Dunedin, as well as 23 fuel stops across the South Island, a highly mobile workforce of more than 70 staff provides logistics and fuel delivery services in a 24×7 operation.
Heavily reliant on technology and requiring high levels of accuracy RD Petroleum provides “delivery you can depend on”.
The Challenge
RD Petroleum’s biggest business challenge is the logistics of fuel delivery – just in time, high levels of accuracy are required. Up-to-date information needs to be at staff fingertips, and the technology must always be available for this 24×7 operation.
In 2011 RD Petroleum was looking for a new technology services partner to support the continued growth within their business. The chosen partner needed to be proactive in providing recommendations for technology improvement, able to provide the full range of technology services needed to support the business 24×7 and to determine and drive the future technology direction for the business.
The Solution with OneCall
In 2011 RD Petroleum selected OneCall over many larger organisations also competing for the opportunity to be their technology services provider.
Since 2011 infrastructure has been migrated into an IaaS solution hosted and managed by OneCall. Production systems operate out of Dunedin with a failover site replicated to Christchurch. These systems provide the core line of business application managing fleets, dispatch, and delivery.
OneCall has supplied a WAN into each of the truck stops in the South Island which carries point of sale transactions and allows for the remote management of truck-stop technology.
OneCall also fully manages all technology devices using Microsoft 365 Business Premium. Microsoft Teams is used for video and collaboration and a cloud-based VoIP solution, supplied and supported by OneCall, is used for voice communications.
OneCall is also involved in systems integration work helping develop tools to allow systems to communicate with each other. Additionally, in 2020 a need for an infrastructure refresh provided the opportunity for OneCall to design and implement ‘hardened’ security facilities to ensure the business remained compliant with new security requirements demanded by a new business partner.
The Result
The resulting long-term partnership between RD Petroleum and OneCall has exceeded all expectations set by the client back in 2011.
“The OneCall Team provide a great service and their team is highly competent. Knowing that we have the ear of the business owners also reassures us and gives us confidence in the solutions they provide for us.”
